Course Registration

Please read all information VERY CAREFULLY before making your selections. It is important to first look at the class and exam timetable before making selections.

Important Registration Information:

Moots, Research Paper, the Court Clerkship, The Idea of a Human Rights Museum, Legal Help Centre Internship and the Publications course will not be available for students to register themselves.  These courses require approval of the Associate Dean's office and we will register students in those courses after the August 16th deadline.

As it is currently configured, Aurora will not allow students to be registered in more than one LAW 3980 course.  If you intend to take more than one such course please register for your first choice and then email Rosa Muller at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  with your name, student number, the course name and number, section and the CRN for the other course and we will process your registration manually.

You will again be able to add and drop courses until September 16th, and for Winter Term courses also from January 3-17. Except for Law 3980 “duplicate” registrations, you must make all course changes yourself using Aurora self serve. The Faculty will only do manual registrations for Law 3980 courses.

Please check your Aurora account after August 16th to make sure you are properly registered and that you have the required 32 credits, including required courses and a perspective course in both 2nd and 3rd year.

Best wishes for the rest of the summer and we’ll see you in September!

The information provided in the course timetable is as complete as possible at this date. With a finite number of instructors, classrooms and time slots some courses are inevitably scheduled in the same time slots, however conflicts have been minimized. In spite of the possibility of some minor changes, the schedule has been developed with the intention that students should be able to plan their full second and third year programs in confidence that the schedule will be more or less stable from year to year. Several of the changes this year were implemented in response to student feedback about last year's schedule.

Please keep your full program in mind as you decide which courses to take each year. Course descriptions are available on the Faculty of Law website. Please contact the instructors directly if you require more information about any particular course descriptions. It is possible that instructors may make some changes to the method of evaluation for the course, so it is important to confirm the evaluation method and other details with the instructor at the first class. You will be able to verify your course schedule for the upcoming year in your Aurora student account as soon as you have registered. You will also be able to access your fee statement at the same time. Be sure to pay by the deadline (September 7, 2011) the University may cancel your registration without warning. If you should wish to change your selections after you have registered you may do so until the end of the University's fall registration revision period which ends September 22 or in the January registration revision period (January 5 - 18) for winter term courses only. Please be aware that if you make a course change, a VW may appear on your transcript. It is also possible that a course change will result in a change of fees. These new fees must also be paid in time; if they are not you may be deregistered and assessed a reinstatement fee. Unfortunately, as things are currently structured, the Faculty has nothing to do with fees and you must deal directly with the Registrar's Office and the Cashier's Office.

Please check your registration confirmation carefully in Aurora to be sure that you have the required number of credit hours for each year (32 to 34 credit hours) and that by the end of your third year you will have taken all of the compulsory courses, including at least one Perspective Course in each of second and third years. It is also your responsibility to make sure that you take any pre- or co-requisite courses you require for your program. The Associate Dean's office will review all courses with prerequisites and deregister anyone who has not completed the prerequisites. A student will then have to pick up the lost credit hours from among the remaining course offerings with space.

Fall term classes for the 2011-2012 academic year begin on Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Please make sure that at the start of term you are attending the courses and sections for which you are registered. Particularly for limited enrollment courses where there are other students waiting for a place in the course, you may be deregistered from your selected courses if you do not attend.

Your ability to register in the appropriate priority sequence is affected by whether or not you have the correct program year in Aurora.  Please check your Aurora student file as soon as possible before registration to ensure that your registration time is correct and that you are in the appropriate year of the program.

If your Aurora file is not correct please send an email to the Rosa Muller This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it with your name, student number and a brief explanation of the problem and we will endeavor to fix it quickly so that you may complete your registration.

If you are in Third year your registration time is August 4th  beginning at 9:00 am.  If you are in Second year your registration time should be August 5th beginning at 9:00 am.  If you are a half-time student your registration time should be August 2nd beginning at 9:00 am.  Draft Exam Schedules have been posted for both December and April exams. Please review these schedules as you consider your course selections for the 2011-12 year. Students will not be blocked registered in their mandatory courses therefore it is your responsibility to make sure you are registered in all you mandatory classes.  This allows students to take optional courses where there may otherwise have been a conflict, or to arrange carpooling or other outside commitments.
